The Royal wedding without a doubt cost a lot of money with estimates pointing to a figure of £20 million for the direct wedding costs.
Of course there was also the cost to the economy of giving the nation a bank holiday but this is something that can be forgiven as most workers were very grateful for a long weekend.
This negativity however only tells half the story. Reports suggest a very positive impact that can be attributed to the Royal wedding.
Sales in London rose by an average of 7 per cent. The guardian reports that overseas visitors accounted a lot for this increase as the influx of tourists who were attracted by the glamour of the Royal wedding spent freely. The Olympics and the Diamond jubilee in 2012 will again give the economy a timely boost.
